Deputy Iris Varela proposes to declare the High Commissioner for Human Rights persona non grata

During the regular session of the National Assembly (AN), Deputy Iris Varela proposed declaring the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Walter Turk, persona non grata.

Varela said that the official has failed to fulfill his responsibilities by not speaking out or acting in the face of the situation of forced disappearance of Venezuelan citizens in El Salvador and the kidnapping of 18 Venezuelan girls and boys in the United States.

Varela also requested that the Public Ministry initiate criminal actions against Turk, arguing that he has committed acts that attack the Venezuelan people.

In her speech, the deputy reiterated the complaint of the kidnapping of 252 Venezuelan migrants in El Salvador and of 18 Venezuelan girls and boys in the United States, who have been separated from their families.
