During a solemn session from the Federal Legislative Palace, the historian and deputy to the National Assembly, Leonel Muñoz, said: “214 years after the signing of the Independence Act, we maintain our unwavering and unrenounceable position of defending the highest purpose achieved than our independence.”
He ratified that Venezuelans will continue to fight at whatever cost is necessary, facing all challenges, among which the rudest and most criminal Unilateral Coercive Measures with which they “intend to subdue us” prevail.
“The commemoration of our founding day is an opportunity to review the sources about what happened, to reflect again on the transcendence of those events, and thus to be able to strengthen the historical consciousness of Venezuelan society from our present,” he said.
He stated that the period of independence is undoubtedly the most studied time of all the periods and asserted that the History, Memory and Heritage Network continues to work to strengthen historical coexistence throughout the national geography.
He insisted that independence was a historic construction that is projected throughout our historical time and is not a declaration frozen in time. “Every historical moment is unique and unrepeatable, with its peculiarities,” he reiterated.
He recalled that since 2014 and to date, Venezuela has remained firm in the face of the aggression of criminal economic measures imposed by the North American empire and that threaten our own lives. “We will defend at all costs our sovereignty, the integrity of our territory.”
“We would be the most despicable if we now took even one step backwards in the illustrious race we undertook towards sovereignty and independence,” he said.
