The deputy to the National Assembly (AN), José Vielma Mora, reported that significant progress has been made in the formation of the Binational Economic Zone between the state of Táchira and the North of Santander, in Colombia.
In this regard, in an interview with the program Dos Más Dos broadcast by Unión Radio, he specified that the infrastructure and the legal framework at the border are undergoing significant development.
“The most important thing about this is that all the infrastructure is set up, everything that has to do with the legal apparatus at the border in regulation is extremely advanced and I think it is up to the limit for some resolutions it requires,” he said.
Vielma Mora noted that they are continuing with technical aspects related to registration and permission, through specialized working groups. “These procedures are being worked on,” he said, while highlighting the impact that this initiative will have on border dynamics.
“I think we're going to have a high positive impact on the border issue,” he said.
He also stressed the need to establish brokerage firms under equitable conditions to promote economic exchange. “It's an issue that needs to be thoroughly regulated, you can't go to an exchange under unequal conditions,” he said.
He also stated that key elements such as compensation, free fluctuation and currency parameters should be considered. “Compensation, depending on free fluctuation and thirdly, what are the parameters of currencies and border behavior,” he said, insisting on the importance of establishing clear rules to ensure balance in commercial operations.
The deputy proposed that customs offices in both countries operate continuously to facilitate the flow of goods. “You have to be highly flexible,” he said.
He said that sectors such as coal, sugar cane, rice, auto parts, dentistry, screws, tailoring, footwear and fabrics could directly benefit from this area of economic integration.
