On Sunday, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) reported power, telephone and internet outages in areas where the main mobilizations and protest actions against President Daniel Noboa are concentrated.
“In the El Cajas sector, strong repression against mobilized peoples. The State turns off the lights, blocks social networks and cuts off the telephone signal to silence complaints,” said CONAIE.
The Cajas in the department of Piura has been an area of roadblocks throughout the week, as well as the entire province of Imbabura, in the north of the country, where the indefinite strike called by the indigenous organization has been concentrated.
Previously, CONAIE reported that in the town of Otavalo, the first death was registered as a result of the repression of the protests, when he was hit by bullets fired by the military.
The assassination of Kichwa leader Efraín Fuerez by members of the Armed Forces was described by the indigenous confederation as a “State crime” perpetrated under the orders of President Daniel Noboa.
