The election of Pope Francis' successor, held in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican, did not obtain a consensus on its first day, so at the Conclave the cardinals will vote again this Thursday morning, May 8.

Now, the cardinals will leave the Sistine Chapel for dinner and sleep, but always within Vatican territory, less than half a square kilometer in the center of Rome, as they are prohibited from leaving it or communicating with the outside world on pain of excommunication.

This May 8, they meet to elect the 267th Pope, who will succeed the recently deceased Supreme Pontiff Francis, who was the first pope from Latin America, and now the cardinals must define who will be their leader and will give them religious direction.

This conclave will follow the daily voting protocol, with a minimum of four rounds per day. To reach a final decision, a two-thirds majority is required. If the process continues without consensus, a second round will be held between the two candidates with the most support. Expectations are high, not only in the religious sphere, but also in debates about human rights, social justice and the role of the Church on the global stage.
