The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs,
Yván Gil, described this Tuesday as “rude interference” the statement of the Colombian
Foreign Ministry regarding the registration of candidates before the
National Electoral Council (CNE) for the presidential elections on
July 28, questioning the transparency of the process in which 12 candidates from the different political sectors of the country have run.
“Driven by the need to comply with the designs of the U.S. State
Department, the Colombian Foreign Ministry takes a
wrong step and commits an act of rude interference in matters that only concern
Venezuelans,” Gil criticized through his account on the social network X, in response to the statement issued by the New Granada Government.
He stressed that “Venezuela has always been respectful of the
complex political processes in Colombia, even in times of violence and
great divisions.”
In this regard, the Venezuelan diplomat denounced that “making false
judgments, even though Foreign Minister @LuisGMurillo had
truthful first-hand information, is not only an act of bad faith, but it seeks to undermine the
process of normalizing diplomatic, political and
commercial relations, which has been promoted by our presidents.”
Since the arrival of President Gustavo Petro, relations
between Caracas and Bogotá have been strengthened after years of aggression by the Uribista
governments that lent the country as a command post for conspiracies
and magnicidal plans to overthrow the Venezuelan head of state, Nicolás Maduro.
However, these statements undermine the important rapprochement in
which both leaders have advanced for peace and stability in the region.
