The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, in which he reiterated the sovereign and peaceful nature of Venezuela and denounced that the Bolivarian nation is the victim of aggression through the use, by the Government of the United States, of its military force in the Caribbean, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law.
Through a post on his Telegram channel, the foreign minister said that during the meeting he emphasized that Venezuela is a country free of illicit crops and has no impact on international drug trafficking.
“We are grateful for the support of the Secretary General, António Guterres, who has told us that he considers the U.S. military threat in the Caribbean to be unjustified and unacceptable, an action that violates the UN Charter and puts the stability and sovereignty of the entire region at risk,” he said.
He also urged the United Nations system to take an active stance in the face of conflicts affecting vulnerable peoples. “The United Nations system must reverse its inaction and not allow another criminal aggression against innocent peoples, such as the current genocide in Palestine, which would only lead to continuing to destroy the principles of the UN and multilateralism, which are already convalescing today.”
