On August 18, 1936, the Spanish revolutionary Federico García Lorca, a poet and master of letters who captured the complexity of the human being, was shot.
He was born on June 5, 1898, in the city of Granada. He studied Philosophy, Literature and Law in 1915, and at that time he was part of “El Rinconcillo”, a group that brought together artists from Granada.
Then he moved to Madrid, arrived at the Student Residence, shared and strengthened ties of friendship with intellectuals who, together, promote works such as “Book of Poems” (1921) and “The Curse of the Butterfly” (1920).
For Lorca, theater was a stream of passion that led him to visit important cities such as New York and Buenos Aires, demonstrating his talent and his works that are references and admired today, such as Blood Wedding and La Casa de Bernarda Alba, among others.
His passion for theater led him to travel the world with his works, being in New York and Buenos Aires, where his works were most welcomed, which continue to be admired by all generations.
He returns to Granada, is arrested on charges of being a socialist and homosexual, and is shot by the right-wing extremists who ruled the Iberian nation with Francisco Franco at the head.
88 years after his assassination, the world is still learning and living the passion that Garcia Lorca left with his legacy.
