The government of Javier Milei ordered the dismissal of almost 3,000 people in different secretariats of the Ministry of Human Capital, led by Minister Sandra Pettovello, a decision that was communicated via email to the workers around midnight this Friday, February 28, without prior notice.
In a review from Telesur, he points out that there are between 2,500 and 2,800 dismissals, whose communication began to go viral on social networks: “I am writing to inform you that, by virtue of the provisions of Decree No. 151/25, as of March 5, 2025, you will be exempt from the obligation to attend your workplace. In the coming days, we will be formally notifying you of the details of the corresponding period of availability, in accordance with the provisions of article 11 of Decree No. 1421/02”, can be read in the email that came to the workers.
In this way, they provided details about the availability situation, and added: “As of March 6 and through this way, you will be able to communicate in the event that it is necessary to remove personal objects from your workplace, and in this way the delivery will be coordinated.”
For his part, Daniel Catalano, general secretary of the State Workers Association (ATE), strongly criticized Pettovello on his social networks.
In the message, he highlights that “at 10:30pm on Friday, the dismissal of my co-workers begins. No one in your horrible management stands up. No one explains or is sensibly human to face the disaster you generate.”
“You are one of those mistakes that is passing through today, you are going to leave your management like a GARCA that leaves food to rot, abandons children, takes away essential rights from the most vulnerable sectors and dismisses workers. That's why, in the history of our country, you are and are going to do that: a GARCA,” he added.
In addition, from the entity's official account, they added that the cut occurred in other areas; such as the Secretariat of Territorial Development, Habitat and Housing and the National Directorate of Architecture.
Meanwhile, the labor community and unions will continue to work to defend workers' rights and demand clear answers about the future of jobs in the public sector.
