The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, celebrated this Wednesday the Day of Our Lady of Peace, patron saint of the state of Trujillo, whom he asked for an end to violence in the world.

Through his account on the social network X, the head of state thanked Our Lady “for the blessing of being able to live free and happy. We ask our loving mother for an end to injustice, hatred and violence in all nations, so that Peace may reign in humanity.”

The origins of the image of the Virgin of Peace probably date back to the 7th century, associated with San Ildefonso de Toledo (606-667), an archbishop of Toledo, Spain, noted for his devotion to the Virgin Mary.

Tradition has it that, during one night in December, Ildefonso entered the Cathedral of Santa María de Toledo, impressed by the great lighting inside the temple, to which he reports seeing the Virgin seated in the archbishop's chair, an act that was interpreted as approval of Ildefonso's teachings. Saint Ildefonso died on January 23, and January 24 has been dedicated to remembering the miracle.
