On Tuesday, January 9, 112 years since the planting
of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes, the president of the Bolivarian Republic
of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, paid tribute to this great hero who defended the territorial integrity of the Homeland.
Through his account on the social network X, the head of state claimed
“the historic struggle of one of the country's greats”, such as General Sifontes,
“a hero who expelled from our lands the invaders who wanted to strip our country of the Essequibo Territory
. 112 years after its planting, the People
honor it by taking it to the National Pantheon!”
Last Saturday, the Bolivarian Government began transferring
to the National Pantheon the remains of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes, an independence
soldier who expelled English troops from Essequiba Guiana.
This Tuesday, they will arrive at the Mausoleum in Caracas.
Sifontes, who died on January 9, 1912, was a
Venezuelan general born in Barcelona, Anzoátegui state, who later
moved to Tumremo and from a young age he dedicated himself to studies and
agricultural activities, but later began military life.
In recent days, it marked 129 years since the British invasion of the Cuyuní River was expelled, a feat led by Sifontes, on January 2, 1895.
