The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commemorated this Tuesday the 208 years of the meeting between the Liberator Simon Bolivar and the Haitian leader Alexandre Petión, which marked the beginning of a friendship marked by dreams of freedom and brotherhood.

“208 years ago, the independence project of our continent took a new breath in Haiti with the Bolivar-Petión meeting, the Haitian president's commitment to the Bolivarian cause put an end to the painful exile of the Liberator, who undertook the expedition to Los Cayos, resuming the fight against Spain for the freedom of America,” recalled the head of state through his account X.

On January 2, 1816, one of the most important events took place between Venezuela and Haiti, such as the interview with Bolívar and Petión, who offered his collaboration in the expedition that the Father of the Fatherland was going to prepare in the Keys.
