Head of State: The formula for true independence is to invent our own paths

During the first Plenary of the Federal Governing Council 2025, this Tuesday, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted the importance of Simón Rodríguez's thinking and his “brilliant dichotomous formulation: 'either we invent or we erre'”.

In this regard, he reiterated that Venezuela should not “expect anything but from ourselves”, and emphasized that “we have to make ourselves respected in the world (...) Let's not expect anyone to respect us, let's make ourselves respected.”

The Head of State stated that the Venezuelan people must consolidate their choice to be “free or slave people, colony or independence. We invent or we make mistakes.”

In this regard, he indicated that “the wonderful formula for true independence is to invent our own paths. No one will write a manual of what Venezuela must go through today and tomorrow. We write history or they write it for us and they impose it on us. Let's choose.”
