This Friday, the Japanese government announced a package of emergency economic measures aimed at stabilizing its domestic economy and protecting the most exposed industries, in an attempt to cushion the impact of US tariffs imposed on its key exports.
Telesur, speaking to the Japanese agency Kyodo, said that the package includes five strategic pillars, including stimulating consumption, financial aid to small businesses, reducing fuel prices and energy subsidies.
The measures were approved at a meeting led by the Japanese Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, who stressed that the tariffs imposed by the Donald Trump Administration in the United States (USA) could “substantially harm fundamental industries such as automotive and steel.”
In this regard, the package includes the reduction of 10 yen per liter in gasoline and diesel, and the reinforcement of soft loans for small and medium-sized enterprises, in order to preserve jobs and boost the domestic market.
A revision of the electricity subsidy system is also planned to cushion inflationary pressure on Japanese households.
