Jorge Rodríguez: The people's decision to defend the sovereignty of Venezuela is indeclinable

This Friday, August 22, the president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, emphasized that the irrevocable decision of the Venezuelan people to defend national sovereignty against any external threat is reaffirmed.

“It is the unwavering decision to defend the sovereignty of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” he said, referring to the act of Defense of the Sovereignty and Peace of Venezuela, Latin America and the Caribbean, Territories of Peace, held in the Elliptical Hall of the Federal Legislative Palace, in Caracas, where the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, addressed the nation.

In this context, Rodríguez highlighted the Venezuelan people's rejection of baseless accusations by US imperialism, which have no solid basis or evidence to defame the Venezuelan State as a criminal zone.

He argued that these statements seek to awaken fascism and violence in the nation, to end the peace and tranquility of the People, a serenity that the Bolivarian Revolution re-established some time ago, after defeating the violent pretensions of the extreme right in the country.

“Today is a day for a single mention and action. It's a day to defend our Homeland. All sectors of the country are present here: economic, cultural and social sectors of the Venezuelan nation,” he said.

In his speech, he also called for the preservation of stability and harmony in the region, and reiterated the importance of peace prevailing in Venezuela, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Rodríguez highlighted Venezuela's historic commitment to peace, within the framework of the founding principles of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which jointly identified Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, in which mutual respect, the sovereignty of peoples and the peaceful resolution of conflicts are promoted.

He stressed that, while the world faces geopolitical tensions, armed conflicts, genocides and extermination operations against defenceless populations, Venezuela maintains its firm position of defending peace as the supreme value in the continent.
