The vice-president of Electoral Affairs of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Jorge Rodríguez, assured that Venezuelan migrants kidnapped in El Salvador are being treated like slaves.
“In the 21st century, something that was already thought to have disappeared, such as slavery, is what Venezuelans kidnapped in El Salvador are experiencing,” he said.
Rodríguez reproached that this action is applauded by María Corina Machado, Edmundo González Urrutia and Leopoldo López. “They applaud the fact that they take Venezuelans as slaves, because there is absolutely no way for any lawyer to certify that this is a correct procedure,” he said.
“They are violating the United Nations Charter of Human Rights, all the conventions in relation to the treatment of migrants,” he emphasized.
He also argued that the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, will have to answer for crimes of humanity, for having subjected Venezuelan migrants to cruel and undignified treatment and for having them in a concentration camp for economic benefit.
