This Friday, during the broadcast of the podcast Sin Truco Ni Maña hosted by the deputy Tania Díaz, the topic of the imprisonment of the father of Colombian paramilitarism Álvaro Uribe Vélez was addressed.

Uribe, from one of his properties located in Antioquia (northwest), must serve 12 years in prison after being found guilty of the crimes of coercion of witnesses and procedural fraud, on August 1.

“He's a man who broke the history of Colombian crime in two, three or four pieces, I don't know,” said journalist and writer Hernando Calvo Ospina.

He also valued the courage and strength of Judge Sandra Heredia, who condemned the father of paramilitarism. “This is a very important decision for Colombia, the fact of condemning this beast makes us say that justice can.”

Uribe is the man who brought us violence in Colombia, they taught us to live with death, it's terrible as a country where people dance and have fun but life isn't worth it... “, stressed Calvo Ospina.

According to the ruling, Uribe was unable to hold public office for 100 months and 20 days (a period that exceeds eight years) and will be fined 861,000 dollars.

The case against the former president has its roots in 2012, when Iván Cepeda, senator of the progressive political party Pacto Histórico, revealed statements by former paramilitaries who supposedly linked Uribe to illegal armed groups.

The accusation was based on a considerable body of evidence: more than 1,500 pages of documents and more than 27,000 hours of telephone recordings, where interactions could be seen between the former president's emissaries and witnesses in prison.
