From Jakarta, the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, urged the United States to abandon armed incursions into the Caribbean.

During his visit to Southeast Asia, Lula denounced that the United States has intensified naval maneuvers in Caribbean and Pacific areas with the objective of combating illegal networks.

He indicated that at least nine vessels were sunk in an operation that was initially directed against Venezuela and that now also includes Colombia, according to a press release from Telesur.

The Brazilian head of state questioned the legality of these actions and stressed the need to respect the sovereignty of nations. He proposed as an alternative dialogue between police forces and the region's judicial systems, instead of unilateral interventions.

The Brazilian president warned of the danger of a foreign incursion into Venezuela, following Trump's recent statements and the sending of troops to the region. Caracas denounced that these actions respond to a plan to force a change of government and appropriate its resources.

Lula concluded by reiterating Brazil's commitment to peace, regional autonomy and understanding between States.
