This Monday, the office of the Prime Minister of Malta announced that the country will officially recognize the Palestinian State during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States (USA).
Last May, Prime Minister Robert Abela announced for the first time plans to recognize a Palestinian state.
Through a post on the social network Facebook in which he praised the delivery of a shipment of flour donated by Malta to Gaza, Abela also added that the recognition of a Palestinian State is a “historic” fact.
Malta remains committed to achieving peace in the region. With this recognition, Malta joins Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Portugal, which admitted the Palestinian State, with the objective of moving towards the implementation of the “two-state solution” and to end the war in Gaza.
In addition, France and Saudi Arabia are scheduled to lead a summit with these countries this Monday and recognize the State of Palestine during the sessions of the United Nations General Assembly.
