The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) of Argentina convened a meeting of its board of directors for Monday, February 16, to formalize a 24-hour general strike in rejection of the labor reform promoted by President Javier Milei, approved by the Senate.
The meeting will be held virtually due to the national holiday and was brought forward due to the possibility that the House of Deputies will discuss the project the following week, Telesur reported.
The government seeks to have the initiative debated before March 1, when Milei will open the regular session of 2026.
The triumvirate that heads the CGT - Jorge Sola, Cristian Jerónimo and Octavio Argüello - had scheduled a meeting for next Wednesday, in which he would propose the call for a general strike.
In a previous document, the central office expressed its total rejection of the bill approved in the Senate, considering that it contradicts the National Constitution and international treaties with a constitutional hierarchy. He also noted that the initiative affects labor rights.
