Merida's cacao producers received seedlings from the National Government

This action seeks to guarantee high quality phytosanitary seeds

Ministry of Science and Technology, delivered 700 cocoa seedlings to the families that make up the La Esperanza production unit, located in the lower Curubal sector, Tucaní parish, in the state of Mérida.

This action, according to a press release, seeks to guarantee seeds of high phytosanitary quality, to strengthen the production of different sectors, hand in hand with farmers.

Rolando Mora, one of the owners of this production unit, said that “with the issue of scientific application, it has been determined that we can produce many more plants; in our case, we have produced some plants up to four kilos, the equivalent of 120 ears per harvest cycle”.

One of the beneficiaries of this plan is Leydi Pavone, producer and member of the Socialist Commune Vencadores de Monte Bello, who expressed her gratitude to the President of the Republic Nicolás Maduro, for this day that elevates the capacities of local farmers.

He added that, during this process, they have been trained in the replacement of chemicals with bioinputs, as well as in phytosanitary pruning practices.

The cocoa producer, Mark Anthony Corridor, pointed out that this work of accompanying the national government has yielded fruits of great value for the area.

“We see plants that are viable to strengthen this strategic sector for us, an area that we place in the market and abroad. The producer begins to exercise a new model of cocoa cultivation (...) and it becomes welfare for the family,” he said.
