The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed that she will send a second shipment of humanitarian aid to Cuba.
“They arrive tomorrow, the ship returns and so a second shipment is going to be made and [more help] is going to be sent,” the president explained at a press conference, after a journalist asked her if the shipment arrived on the island.
He also revealed that future trips could include food collections carried out by civil society organizations in Mexico, to help the Cuban population in the midst of the humanitarian emergency they are suffering due to the tightening of the United States blockade.
“If they can deliver it, it will also be sent,” he said, in addition to stating that the Government will contact solidarity groups to coordinate aid. On the other hand, Sheinbaum explained that commercial flights to Cuba have not stopped because aircraft are carrying fuel in Mexican territory.
Previously, the Mexican Government sent two Navy ships that left the port of Veracruz, supplied with 814 tons of food and basic necessities.
