The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that the Aztec nation could open an airlift, if Cuba requested it, through which other countries would allocate aid to the Caribbean nation, she reported on her Prensa Latina website.

“If Cuba asks for it, there would be those conditions, of course,” the president said in response to a question about that possibility during her regular press conference.

The head of the Executive said, on the other hand, that flights are not closed. Aircraft “can come to Mexico (to load turbocharged engines). In fact, Mexican airline flights are not closed to Cuba, because there is a turbocharger here and it's very close,” he said.

This Thursday, February 12, the ships Papaloapan and Isla Holbox, of the Mexican Navy, arrived in Cuba, with about 814 tons of basic food and hygiene items, after leaving the port of Veracruz on Sunday for the Caribbean country.

“As soon as they (the ships) return, we are going to send more support of a different kind,” he said.

On the other hand, the ruling party, the National Regeneration Movement, as well as groups such as the Va por Cuba Militant Solidarity Collective and the Association of Cubans Residing in Mexico, called on the population to support the largest of the Antilles with food.
