Amid the actions of the United States (USA) to tighten the economic blockade against Cuba, this Sunday the Government of Mexico sent the logistics support ships Papaloapan and Isla Holbox, of the Aztec Navy, to the Island, with 814 tons of food for the Antillean people.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that aid should arrive at the Cuban port in approximately four days, in a humanitarian and solidarity action instructed by President Claudia Sheimbaun.
In a statement, the Government of Sheimbaun said that “the people of Mexico keep alive their tradition of solidarity with the peoples of Latin America and in particular with the people of Cuba.”
The document states that the Papaloapan vessel transports basic food, including liquid milk, meat products, biscuits, beans, rice, tuna in water, sardines and vegetable oil, as well as personal hygiene items, with a load of around 536 tons.
Meanwhile, Holbox Island carries just over 277 tons of powdered milk. The official communication adds that both ships sailed from Veracruz at 08:00 (Papaloapan) and at noon (Holbox Island), and specifies that there are still more than 1,500 tons of powdered milk and beans waiting to be sent to Cuba.
