Under Javier Milei, the Argentine Government reduced public employment by more than 63,000 in two years, deepening its neoliberal measures to adjust public spending, reflecting social discontent.
A report by the Argentine Center for Political Economy (CEPA), cited by the HispanTV portal, states that the Government of Argentina eliminated 63,234 public sector jobs between December 2023 and December 2025. The agency's director, Hernán Letcher, noted that national public employment contracted 18.4% in 24 months, as a result of mass layoffs, non-renewal of contracts and administrative restructuring.
The contraction focused on strategic areas of the State. Decentralized organizations—entities with technical, administrative and financial autonomy—concentrated 20,537 dismissals, implying a 15% drop in their staff. This group includes institutions linked to economic regulation, essential services and social policies.
At the same time, the national Executive Branch registered the greatest adjustment in relative terms. The centralized administration reduced its workforce by 16,918 workers, a reduction equivalent to 30.2%.
The cut also affected the offices of the central Government with a territorial presence throughout the country, where there were 3199 dismissals, representing a decrease of 12.8%
