The Minister for Culture, Raúl Cazal, signed the file to nominate the Venezuelan hallaca as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity before UNESCO, at an event held at the National Art Gallery.

“We have the pride and the feeling of what we are doing today, when presenting this file to UNESCO, something that for us is more than a heritage. It's much more than anything any global body or institution can say, because we test and approve it,” he said, a Venezuelan Television review.

Cazal also recognized the work of researcher Benito Yrady and his team, who compiled the different regional variants of the dish, building a record that reflects the Venezuelan culinary diversity from the communities.

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Identity and Cultural Diversity, Ignacio Barreto, pointed out that this application constitutes a significant advance and recalled that hallaca would be the third gastronomic experience in the country, together with arepa and casabe.

The document covers the integral process of this traditional dish, from its ingredients and preparation to its forms of consumption, highlighting its value as an element of family and cultural identity in the country.

In addition, it incorporates contributions from different regions, including variations in ingredients, leaves and preparations, which highlights the richness and diversity of this Venezuelan culinary tradition.
