This Friday, August 28, the president of the Presidential Commission to Evaluate the Habitability of Housing and Infrastructure, Francisco Garcés, reported that a process will begin to formulate repair and reconstruction projects in approximately 11,000 structures affected by the earthquakes of last June 24.
From the Faculty of Engineering of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) in Caracas, in statements to the media, he explained that “the process of reformulating repair and reconstruction projects will begin; these buildings will have engineering projects with responsible professionals, who will certify what the reconstruction and reinforcement mechanism will be”.
He noted that this decision was taken after carrying out more than 62,000 infrastructure inspections in the regions affected by the earthquakes.
On the other hand, Garcés commented on the importance of the seminar Venezuela: Rebuilding to Transform; in which technicians from Japan shared their experiences in responding to natural disasters that have previously affected the Asian country.
“This experience is valid and we are taking it on and exchanging it together with them,” said the Minister of People's Power for Transportation.
He also noted that, although Venezuela has its own seismic-resistant protocols for construction, “the mechanism of international cooperation and the mechanism of academic and professional growth is always welcome.”
