During a day of mobilization in the state of Sucre, the Minister of Popular Power for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Juan Carlos Loyo, announced the activation of the Sectorial Chapter of Fishermen and Women Fishermen within the framework of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace.
From the caravan of bouncers and seafarers, Loyo emphasized that this first chapter responds to the call of those who work on the Venezuelan coast, in defense of maritime sovereignty and the right to decent work.
“The fishing people are organized, mobilized and aware. He has gone out to cross the Caribbean Sea as he does daily, now with greater force, in response to the call of President Nicolás Maduro to defend our territorial waters,” said Loyo.
The minister emphasized that the national fishing force has been organized in a single network, with a presence along the entire coast, and that it is willing to support military and police authorities in any circumstance that requires the defense of sovereignty.
“Fishermen are not intimidated by threats or attacks. They are formed to show the world the strength of the fishing militia, as an expression of popular organization,” he said.
Loyo reiterated that fishermen are key actors in building peace and sovereignty, and that their inclusion in the National Council represents an advance in the consolidation of the rights enshrined in the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
