In an environment filled with books, readers
and cultural activities, the Minister of Popular Power for Culture,
Ernesto Villegas, shared this Sunday a tour of the 21st
International Book Fair of Venezuela (FILVEN 2025), highlighting the event as
a conquest of the Venezuelan people over all these years.
“This fair is a conquest of the
Venezuelan people, created by Commander Hugo Chávez and supported by President
Nicolás Maduro, and which puts before us the right of our people to access to
reading, publications, publishers, authors, debates, which this fair usually
convenes,” he said during the tour of the different spaces
installed in the National Art Gallery and the Plaza de la Juventud.
With more than 600 scheduled activities, Minister Villegas highlighted the itinerant nature of the event, which will soon be deployed throughout the country. “We are very happy to have done it here, in this place, in the National Art Gallery and in the Plaza de la Juventud, which has become a new cultural hub in Caracas and now we are preparing to tour the country like every year, with the regional chapters of the Fair, starting with this year's special guest state, which is Guiana Esequiba,” he said.
He also pointed out that work is being done on the
development of a new national reading promotion policy,
directly promoted by the President of the Republic. “President Nicolás Maduro
Moros gave us an instruction on the day of the opening of the fair, to
promote a mission, an expeditious and efficient special mechanism for promoting reading in popular communities, in communal circuits, in the
commune, the communal council, public libraries, schools, public spaces,” he said.
He emphasized that FILVEN 2025 could mark a turning point in the field of reading promotion in Venezuela. “We think that this fair may be the turning point towards a new level, an elevation, a higher stage of the policy of promoting reading in Venezuela so that we have more and more active readers, more and more active writers, more and more active readers and more and more active writers,” he said.
