This Tuesday, June 17, the Minister of Popular
Power for Communication, Freddy Ñáñez, and his Minister for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, exalted
the memory of the poet Juan
Calzadilla, during an event in homage and to say a final goodbye to the Venezuelan teacher.
In that regard, Ñáñez stressed that we thank
Maestro Calzadilla for having given so much for our country. “We know
that it was another spirit of comedy, that of tragedy (...) Juan Calzadilla
left a very robust poetic work, which is undoubtedly a reference for Spanish-speaking poetry
,” he said.
In addition, he recalled that the teacher wrote “six very amusing
epitaphs that diminish the gravity that we usually give to
death from our cultural and religious perspective”. At the same time, he recalled that
the teacher was always an enemy of formal acts and everything that was
official.
He reaffirmed that Calzadilla was the founder
of a cultural institution and that he opened the doors to the avant-garde, “but
above all he was a teacher, who always strived to teach how to think, feel and
act in the field of culture and Venezuela.”
For his part, Minister Villegas
stressed that today “we dismissed a rebel with a cause who knew how to build boundaries between the different
disciplines of art; he was a poet, visual artist and art critic, but above all he dedicated his life to training”.
He reaffirmed that Calzadilla's work will continue to travel the country with the young poets who are now training in every school. “Venezuela pays tribute to the memory of Juan Calzadilla and does not leave a vacuum, what it leaves is an example and a path to follow,” he said.
