This Saturday, August 9, in Caracas, the International Meeting of Indigenous Peoples was held, an event that brings together leaders of ethnic groups and ancestral peoples who discuss the defense and rights of Mother Earth, in order to commemorate their day.
At the venue of the event, the minister of popular power for Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal, said that this activity will consolidate an extraordinary team of indigenous ecosocialist councils.
He stressed that this council will give the opportunity and responsibility for each of the “indigenous brothers formed in communal circuits, communal councils and communes to defend our Mother Earth.” He added that, based on experiences, learning and exchanging about what must be done to act in favor of Pachamama will be put into practice.
Minister Vidal asserted that indigenous peoples worldwide make up 6% of the population, distributed in 90 countries across the continent. “Here is our ancient source and in our territory is the source of life; it is the lung, the most beautiful thing and the most beautiful wealth that gives us food and life,” he said
