The Bolivarian pole champion of Lima-Ayacucho 2025, Ricardo Montes de Oca, raised one step to the absolute record he set 20 days ago when he surpassed the rod at 5.68 meters this Friday at the Doc Hale invitation, an indoor American university event that took place in Blacksburg, Virginia, the MinDeporte portal reported.
With this result, the Venezuelan improved the start of the season he achieved last year 2025, when he opened the same way with a national under-23 record and absolute record on an indoor court with 5.60 m.
This time he beat for the second time the national mark that had placed him at 5.67, on January 17 at the Virginia Tech invitation.
In the same way, he added his name to the books of High Point University, North Carolina, where he is studying at university, and for which 5.68 meters are also a record.
Clean series
The 19-year-old pertiguista maintained an untainted series of jumps. He missed the first two heights 4.98 and 5.13 to reach his first valid attempt at 5.28.
Montes de Oca maintained its performance at the following levels 5.43 and 5.58. He later evaded the height at 5.63 and challenged himself to exceed his limits with his record jump at 5.68.
He had only three failures in the competition in 5.73 meters that placed him on the second rung of the podium, ahead of Cade Gray, from the University of Tennessee, who surpassed the same height, but after a greater number of failed attempts.
The 5.58 helped Larense to win the silver medal, when he escorted Matthew Gray, from Appalachian State, who reached 5.73 meters.
