The National Assembly (AN) was declared a Delegate Committee for the parliamentary recess, which begins this Friday, August 15, when the first regular session of 2025 ends, as established in article 219 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (CRBV).
The recess will end on September 15, to kick off the second regular session of this year. Meanwhile, the Delegate Committee, which is made up of the Board of Directors of the National Assembly, the presidents and vice-presidents of the standing committees and the heads of the parliamentary factions, will be installed when fixed by the presidency of the Parliament.
The delegated body has the mission of guiding parliamentary functions during the break, in accordance with the provisions of article 195 of the CRBV, in accordance with article 53 of the Internal Regulations and Debates of the AN (RIDAN), according to a note published on the AN portal.
Article 195 of the Magna Carta establishes that, during the recess of the Legislative Power, the Delegate Committee, consisting of the directors of the 15 permanent committees, will operate and will maintain legislative continuity.
With regard to article 53 of RIDAN, it indicates that the parliamentary recess of the AN will take place on the day and time set by the presidency, with at least the majority of its members.
This special body of the Legislative Branch declares itself twice in each regulatory year, this being the first cutoff period, from August 15 to September 15. The second delegate would be from December 15 to January 5, 2026, when the new legislative period 2026 is installed.
Last May, parliamentary elections were held to elect 285 deputies, including those selected in the territory of Guiana Essequiba.
The deputies elected in 2025 form the new AN, which will govern from January 5, 2026 to January 5, 2031.
