The national Government, through the ministries of Popular Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Industries and National Production, led by Julio León Heredia and Alex Saab, respectively, signed an agreement with the objective of modernizing three key sugar mills and expanding sugar cane crops in the national territory by 30,000 hectares.
This agreement seeks to significantly reactivate the installed capacity of Venezuelan agribusiness and to strengthen the production of agri-food items in the country. The expansion of the cultivated area of sugar cane will guarantee the supply of raw materials to meet domestic demand with 100% domestic production, by promoting sustainability and self-sufficiency.
Agri-food engine
This strategic project is part of the Agrifood Engine, a fundamental pillar of the 13 Productive Engines of the Bolivarian Economic Agenda promoted by President Nicolás Maduro.
The initiative represents a firm step towards import substitution in the productive sector, with the goal of consolidating domestic production with a view to exporting.
