This Friday, August 22, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, emphasized that Venezuela, Latin America and the Caribbean are currently and will continue to be territories of peace and welcomed the “Manifesto in Defense of the Sovereignty and Peace of Venezuela, Latin America and the Caribbean as territories of peace”, which reiterates the nation's inalienable right to self-determination.

In that regard, he called on all Venezuelans to subscribe to this consensus for peace, for life and for national sovereignty.

This was expressed during the act of Defense of the Sovereignty and Peace of Venezuela, Latin America and the Caribbean, Territories of Peace, held in the Elliptical Hall of the Federal Legislative Palace, in Caracas, from where he addressed the nation.

The head of state urged the Venezuelan people, and sister countries in the region, to continue strengthening the active defense of national sovereignty, in line with the principles enshrined in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

He also recalled the importance of ratifying, in a firm and sustained manner, the historic declaration issued by CELAC in 2014, through which Latin America and the Caribbean were proclaimed a territory of peace.
