The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, toured the facilities of the new industrial plant of the pharmaceutical company Gema Labs, which will promote domestic drug production to ensure full supply.
From the laboratory, located in Miranda state, Rodríguez explained that the opening of this factory follows the instructions of President Nicolás Maduro to accelerate the economic engine of non-oil exports, particularly to countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Central America and the Caribbean.
Regarding the manufacturing process, he indicated that a single-dose system was implemented to minimize costs and reduce environmental impact, by selling doses of drugs according to the particular needs of each buyer, instead of selling groups of pills, which will allow cost savings for the consumer of up to 30%.
In addition, he added that this plant will be used to manufacture inhalers for asthmatics, which needed to be imported until recent times. “We call on national and international investments in our country to continue to develop productive experiences like this and to strengthen the pharmaceutical engine,” Rodríguez added.
He also noted the financial support of the national public bank and the Ministry of the People's Power of National Commerce. “Right now, Venezuela has a full supply of medicines, but also the most important thing is that it is a sector that has been growing.”
