The Government of Nicaragua announced its withdrawal from the Human
Rights Council (HRC) of the United Nations (UN) in rejection of all
falsehoods and calumnies against the Central American country, in which it emphasized
that the report of the self-styled group of experts is evidence of double standards and the politicization of each of these mechanisms.
“The report of the self-styled group of experts that
Nicaragua does not recognize, as well as the previous reports, statements,
communiqués and updates of the Office of the
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights are evidence of the double standards and
politicization of these mechanisms that exploit human rights,
using them as a pretext for interference in States and disrespect for Sovereignty,” said the
Foreign Ministry in a statement.
In addition, they pointed out that these mechanisms constitute not
only true methods and political platforms to discredit
Nicaragua in the consolidation of peace and security, but they are also an
obstacle to the economic and social development of the Nicaraguan people who
seek to prevent progress in education, health, housing, infrastructure, food
security, energy, water and sanitation, among others.
The authorities assured that the international organization has
become a sounding board for those who attacked peace and
tranquility, as well as the perpetrators of the multiple murders,
kidnappings and rapes against the Nicaraguan people.
After what happened, the Nicaraguan vice-president, Rosario
Murillo, said: “for Nicaragua, these disrespectful mechanisms lost their nature and essence.
We don't recognize them and we don't see ourselves as part of or
complicit in abuses against sovereignty, the equality of States, and the
dignity of peoples.”
