Osmary Pacheco broke national record in 400 meters

Osmary Pacheco from Caracas broke the national record in 400 meters, at the start of the U18 and U23 National Championships, in the return to the oval of the Brígido Iriarte Stadium in Caracas.

After two and a half decades, a new name was written as the best of all time in the women's under-18 section on Osmary Pacheco's legs.

The runner from the capital, barely 16 years old, gave an impressive display of power and endurance at speed to be crowned in the 400 meters with a time of 53.35, the second Venezuelan woman in history to drop below 54 seconds in this event.

The previous mark of 53.90 was in the possession of Yusmelis García, also from Caracas, since November 4, 2000.

The top of Pacheco currently places her as number 23 in the World Athletics world ranking, while giving her the privilege of commanding the ranking in South America in this event.

The honor roll of the national event was made up of Waleska Ortiz from Guairense (55.60) and Mirandina Dilany Melo (56.59), silver and bronze, respectively.

The fastest party was completed by Axel Gómez from Zulia in the under-23 category, in which with 45.60 he improved 19 hundredths of a second the personal record of 45.79 that he clocked in October of last year.

In turn, it touched the historical record of the section by 0.05 hundredths of a second as it approached the record of his countryman Jhonathan Palma, which has been in force at 45.55 since September 2001.

The silver medal in the event went to the representative of La Guaira, Kalin Zambrano (47.24) and the bronze medal went to the capital's Adam Canelón (47.83).

Gómez's participation reaffirms medal expectations at the upcoming Santa Fe South American Games for the 4x400 absolute relay.

The long post is completed by the national record for the oldest with 44.58 and the Central American bronze medalist in Santo Domingo, Javier Gómez; the eightieth century Olympic player, José Maita, in addition to the Bolivarian champion of Lima 2025, Kelvis Padrino.

Another outstanding result took the form of jumping specialties, placing some of the under-18 national leaders in privileged positions in the region's ranking.
