Padrino López: Operation Cumanagoto activated in Sucre state

The sectoral vice-president of Defense and National Sovereignty, Vladimir Padrino López, announced this Sunday the activation of Operation Cumanagoto in the state of Sucre, as part of the strategic actions ordered by the Commander in Chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), Nicolás Maduro, to guarantee sovereignty.

“We are going to Sucre state with all the means, all the strength, to carry out the order of our commander in chief. This operation aims to clear the territory of any terrorist or drug trafficking group that is operating illegally in that area,” said Padrino López, referring to the military deployment in the 15 municipalities in the eastern part of the state.

He specified that the state of Sucre has been divided into four quadrants, where 60 Rapid Reaction Units (URRAS) will be deployed to carry out tasks of reconnaissance, patrolling and neutralizing threats.

“We are going to search, do reconnaissance and clean up the area. It should be remembered that on the Macuro axis, La Punta, Promontory of Paria, with a connection to Trinidad and Tobago, fuel, weapons, ammunition and human trafficking are being smuggled,” he warned.

He indicated that, as part of this operation, live-fire exercises will be carried out off the coast of Sucre state, with the participation of naval, air, land and air defense assets, as well as unmanned aerial systems.

He urged the troops deployed in the region to act efficiently and effectively in all assigned tasks. “We want a completely clean Sucre state, free of threats, and you are responsible for ensuring it,” he said.
