Persistent rains in Bolivia leave more than 40 dead

The Deputy Minister of Civil Defense of Bolivia, Juan Carlos Calvimontes, reported that at least 42 people lost their lives as a result of the intense and persistent rains that also left seven missing, the Telesur website reported.
Calvimontes, at a press conference, specified that from November 2024 to March 11, 2025, there are already 119 damaged municipalities, of which 39 declared themselves in disaster, 28 of these belong to La Paz, a department that declared an emergency because it was the most affected, followed by Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Potosí.
The intense rainfall caused floods, floods and landslides that caused damage in 1,991 communities and 119 municipalities. In addition, 136,885 families were affected, 49,171 of them were affected and in total there are already 186,056 damaged households.
From the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (SENAMHI), they reiterated the validity of the orange weather alert for risks with rains and thunderstorms for 186 municipalities in the departments of Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Chuquisaca, Potosí, La Paz, Tarija and Beni.
They also reported that the Joint Adverse Event Response Command, of the Armed Forces, is deployed to provide timely assistance to the affected population throughout the country.
There have been 44 care operations to date due to the rainy season, mobilizing a total of 3,444 personnel from the three military forces Army, Air Force and Navy that have carried out 55 land, air and river reconnaissance and exploration operations.
