Two of the most common pathologies experienced by people who attended the first phase of the Community Surgical Plan are mainly associated with the consumption of soft drinks, refined sugar and high fat content; as well as the stress generated by the way of life of modern society.
Among the most requested interventions among this population, which live in the states of Lara, Portuguesa, Apure and Trujillo, the extraction of gallstones and kidneys leads the list, two conditions that are correlated to poor eating habits and, in some cases, to poor management of emotions.
That is why, from the coordination of the Community Surgical Plan, the My Healthy Community Plan was created, an educational and training program for health care, whose purpose is to help the population maintain a healthy life that reduces the likelihood of a disease caused by poor eating habits and poor emotional management.
Kelly Pacheco, coordinator of both plans, tells us more about this latest program:
— When and where does the My Healthy Community Plan start?
It started two months ago in the municipalities of Iribarren and Simón Planas, Lara state, although it is being implemented with greater emphasis on Simón Planas.
— Why are these municipalities chosen as starting points?
In the Iribarren municipality, we began to promote healthy lifestyles, but in the Simón Planas municipality we decided to go deeper because there, for three years, a pilot of the surgical program that linked the communes and the Simón Planas Mayor's Office had been developed. As surgical debt was being significantly brushed off, we thought it was the best place to start the My Healthy Community Plan.
— What diagnosis was made to consider the implementation of this plan necessary?
The concurrence of pathologies in which poor diet, poor stress management and emotional management in general were evident.
— What does this plan consist of?
This plan has two phases: one, which seeks to diversify the approach and expand the vision through care sessions; and the other through the training of spokespersons in natural health.
— Is it only focused on training health spokespersons?
No, we are also concerned with the promotion of natural health and new, healthier lifestyles that promote changes in habits in the community.
— Can we know the content of this plan and its duration?
For now, we are focused on holding 4-hour forums. To date, we have carried out seven, in which we have served a total of 1,420 participants from 35 communes in the state of Lara.
We have also held two natural health days of 8 hours each, where 240 participants were treated.
And a start of the cycle of 16-hour training workshops, in which we have attended 20 spokeswomen and spokespersons in the first phase.
— What specialists are involved in the plan?
Acupuncturists, massage therapists, naturopaths, iridiologists, specialists in Traditional Chinese Medicine, biomagnetists, biodecoders.
— How does the My Commune Healthy Plan complement the Community Surgical Plan?
It is part of the alternatives or complementary therapies for patients who have not undergone the operating room and who can still prevent surgery by correcting their lifestyle and eating habits. And in patients who have been in the operating room, it helps to avoid recurrence because mainly this type of therapy generates reflection in the individual to make a conscious change.
— What goals have been set with My Healthy Commune?
Activate natural health promoters by each communal council and commune, and lower the statistics of surgical pathologies and chronic diseases.
— How many people have been trained to date and how is it established that they support their communes with training?
In the first phase, 240 people have been treated in therapeutic sessions and 40 health spokespersons have been trained.
