From the municipality of Chaguaramas, Guárico state, a sown area of 347,489 hectares of corn and rice has been reached, consolidating this entity as the epicenter of national agricultural production.
As part of the 2025 National Sowing Plan, the Minister of Popular Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Julio León Heredia, announced this progress, which is the result of the efforts of the Bolivarian Government to strengthen the country's food sovereignty.
Of the total sown, 194,352 hectares correspond to yellow corn and 153,137 to white corn, distributed mainly in the states of Guárico, Portuguesa, Barinas, Bolívar, Monagas and Anzoátegui. “In Guárico we are going to have a very positive production. This year, more than 170,000 hectares were planted. The people of Guarique have done an extraordinary job,” said Minister Heredia, highlighting the commitment of local producers.
In addition, he stressed that success is not only measured in the area sown, but also in yields per hectare, which exceed five thousand kilos, which represents a significant step towards food self-sufficiency. “Not only are we seeing a wonderful corn harvest, but there is a spirit of improvement that projects a higher goal in sovereignty and food security by 2026.”
For his part, the spokesman for the Guárico producers, Julio Manui, celebrated the government's support: “Today, all the support provided by President Nicolás Maduro has been a success. Thanks to that, we have come this far, and next year we are going to cover more than 200,000 hectares.”
In turn, the spokeswoman for the Guárico Farmers Council, Lili Martínez, also expressed her gratitude to the Bolivarian Government: “With this support for farmers and economic improvement, today we join the corn harvest to contribute for the country. We, the fierce peasant women, are here to provide all the support to the people.”
This achievement confirms the strategic role of the Venezuelan countryside in building a sovereign productive model, with the joint efforts of institutions, producers and peasant communities.
