This Easter Sunday, Pope Francis peeked out from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica to impart the long-awaited Urbi et Orbi blessing, which marks Easter Sunday, the most important holiday in the Christian calendar, and which commemorates the death of Christ and his subsequent resurrection.

Although he still shows signs of weakness and uses a wheelchair, the Holy Father appeared without the nasal oxygen cannulas, indicating that his respiratory condition has visibly improved. “Dear brothers and sisters, happy Easter”, were his words.

Meanwhile, at Easter Mass, Monsignor Diego Ravelli, master of pontifical liturgical ceremonies, read his traditional message, where the Supreme Pontiff expressed his faith and hope for peace in the world and urges countries in combat to resolve current conflicts, as well as to prevent other war confrontations.

Pope Francis called on the warring parties to cease fire, release the hostages and provide aid to the population “who is hungry and aspiring to a future of peace. The Risen Christ opens our lives to hope.”

More than 35,000 faithful gathered this Sunday, April 20, 2025 to celebrate Easter Mass, presided over this year by Cardinal Angelo Comastri, priest of St. Peter's Basilica and vicar general emeritus of His Holiness for Vatican City.
