During the Sunday Angelus prayer, Pope Francis assured that he maintains his “trust” while he has been hospitalized at the Agostino Gemelli hospital in Rome, since February 14, for bronchitis that transformed into pneumonia.
“For my part, I am confidently continuing my stay at the Gemelli Polyclinic, receiving the necessary treatments,” said the supreme pontiff, also stressing that “rest is part of therapy,” said Vatican News.
In this context, the pope sent his thanks to all the health personnel responsible for his care. “I sincerely thank the doctors and healthcare staff at this hospital for the care they show me and the dedication with which they carry out their service to the sick.”
The current condition has prevented the highest authority of the Vatican, for the second consecutive Sunday, from giving the Angelus speech in front of thousands of parishioners from a window of the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican, as is tradition. For this reason, staff from the Holy See Press Office had to be responsible for getting their messages to the faithful.
Previously, the Vatican reported that the pope had spent a “quiet” night during the Sunday Angelus prayer, after having worsened his condition on Saturday following a respiratory crisis that required a blood transfusion.
“The Holy Father's condition remains critical, so, as explained yesterday, the pope is not out of danger” and will remain hospitalized “at least all next week,” the Vatican said.
