The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted that out of 30,000 young people have been in higher education institutions in the country to study medicine this academic year.

“This year, 30,000 new students joined, a fundamental step in fulfilling the dream of training 100,000 comprehensive community doctors and specialists in various areas of health,” he said during a meeting with university students.

The head of state stressed that new medical students have been selected by communities and are committed to starting internships from the first semester in Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers, outpatient clinics and hospitals.

“From the moment they start studying, they must attend the ICDs, the outpatient clinics, the house-to-house visit, like José Gregorio Hernández,” he said.

The president gave instructions to set an immediate date for the next University Games and to promote cultural activities such as singing, music and bagpipes, as well as a special plan for student tourism. “You have to take everything that has to do with university music and singing, make a great national song and multiply culture and sports,” he said.

He summoned the management of the Venezuelan Federation of University Students and the Federation of Middle Education Students to a meeting at the Miraflores Palace on Monday, November 24, together with the Council of Ministers, to examine the proposals in detail. “I'm waiting for you here with all your proposals, one by one, next Monday, November 24 at two in the afternoon,” he announced.

Maduro backed the creation of student peace brigades in all universities. “Student peace brigades must go out and proclaim the right to peace in streets, cities, neighborhoods and communities,” he concluded.
