President Maduro celebrates Venezuela's world title in men's softball

“Venezuela is a men's softball world champion, we are the winners of the 18th WBSC World Cup in Canada 2025. Congratulations! I express with great joy my absolute pride in each of the high-level players who today, in the final, demonstrated their amazing ability. Gold Generation! Champions for the first time!”
With these words, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, the feat of Venezuelan softball that faced the New Zealand national team, which he blocked 3-0 thanks to the careers of Pedro Flores and Kleiver Rodríguez, who added twice to seal the final 3-0.
Starter Maiker Pimentel was key to the victory, dominating the New Zealand offense for 4.2 innings, striking out seven batters and allowing just one hit.
The Venezuelan conquest comes after a challenging start in the Super Round, where the national team fell to Japan in its first match, as reported by the Venezuelan Softball Federation on its Instagram account.
Before the decisive game, Venezuela had already beaten New Zealand 7-2 in the group stage, securing the pass as the two best in Group A. In the final round, the United States won the bronze medal after beating Japan 10-1 in the game for third place.
With this feat, Venezuela not only achieved its first world championship, but it also won its third medal in the history of the tournament, after the runner-up in 2013 and the bronze in 2015.
