The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, thanked Pope Leo XIV on Monday for his support for Venezuelan migrants kidnapped in El Salvador and in the United States (USA).

During his program With Maduro+, the Head of State highlighted the role assumed by the Church as the “highest moral authority in the world”, in the face of the inaction of multilateral organizations such as the United Nations (UN), and, in particular, of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, whom he directly accused of being a political operator at the service of imperialism.

“What I have are words of thanks for Pope Leo XIV and I hope that, given all this, we can rescue alive and healthy and hand them into the arms of their mother the 31 boys and girls who are kidnapped,” said Maduro.

He also welcomed the intervention of the Cardinal of San Salvador, who publicly demanded the restoration of rights to Venezuelans deprived of their liberty without trial or defense.

He recalled that a letter sent by his government to the Vatican was delivered directly to the Apostolic Nuncio in Caracas, Monsignor Ortega, and stressed that concrete gestures are already being observed on the part of the universal Church.

Regarding Türk, Maduro criticized that he has been silent in the face of the kidnapping and forced disappearance of Venezuelan migrants in El Salvador and children in the United States, despite having been directly informed by the Venezuelan government.

Volker Türk does nothing because Volker Türk is an agent of the U.S. government and colonialist imperialist Europe in the United Nations,” he denounced.
