The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, stressed that the development of the Zones of Peace, promoted in the border states of Venezuela: Zulia, Táchira, Apure and Amazonas, is progressing at an accurate pace, referring to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the border states of Venezuela and Colombia.

He argued that the Memorandum is “a historic event”.

“Colombia and Venezuela are taking certain steps for union, liberation, peace and shared development, protecting binational zones,” highlighted at the headquarters of the Great Venezuela Youth Mission, in the Zone of Peace segment, in its program With Maduro+, in broadcast number 92.

In this regard, he specified that three peace zones are being consolidated in Venezuela: Zone 1, which covers the states of Táchira and Zulia; Zone 2, which comprises the state of Apure, and Zone 3, which covers the state of Amazonas.

Regarding the latter, he pointed out that “the Binational Zone of Peace, number 3 that we are building on the side of Colombia, Vichada and Guainía, its two governors, the idea is to improve every time. More investment for tourism, agricultural production, industrialization, improving the collaboration of educational institutes in the area.”

The head of state pointed out that the border between Venezuela and Colombia “is a porous border”, for this reason, he considered that the challenge of the Binational Peace Zones with Colombia is for the neighboring country to find its way to replace the 50,000 hectares planted with coca leaves; since the states of Zulia and Táchira are territories free of drug production and armed drug trafficking gangs.

He argued that Binational Zones must be zones of integral development, industrial production, investment, agricultural production, active binational trade, educational and cultural exchange and permanent communication, between governors, mayors, deputies, legitimate authorities, military and police forces.

Colombia and Venezuela can never and never have a fight, let alone a military conflict,” he emphasized.

He also stressed that it is important to give greater publicity to this type of positive events for the country, “we must communicate more, because the mobilization that took place yesterday on the Colombian side, thousands of self-convened people, because from Colombia, is impressive. A single message comes to us from all over South America: If they touch Venezuela, they touch all of us.”

For his part, the governor of the state of Zulia, Luis Caldera, commented on the situations and realities of the communities, especially indigenous people, that live on the border of both countries and indicated that with this Binational Zone, commercial exchange between Maicao and Maracaibo is being strengthened.

In his speech, the governor of the state of Amazonas, Miguel Rodríguez, emphasized that the First Binational Orinoco Forum to promote cooperation, culture and development in the border region, held last Wednesday, September 24, in the Colombian municipality of Puerto Carreño, was a historic event.

He specified that the meeting was attended by the governors of Vichada, Fulberto Guevara and of Guainía, Arnulfo Rivera, as well as the ambassadors of both nations.
