The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said that his proposal for a global peace summit arises from the possibility of nuclear war due to the escalation of war between Israel and Iran in recent days, in which the United States entered bombing Iranian nuclear centers.
“We modestly but firmly ratify the proposal to the great powers, to the countries involved in these aggressions and to the world's leaders, for a World Peace Summit. Peace will be achieved by the countries that need it and we want to avoid the expansion of a third world war,” he said.
He argued that this summit should be held as soon as possible in a country in the
region in order to ensure the direct participation of the
most involved actors and send a clear signal of regional will for peace.
He added that for that summit it must be
led by the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Gulf Cooperation
Organization and the BRICS.
The Head of State added that the situation in
Western Asia has entered a phase of maximum tension and violence, and the
intensification of the aggressions of the State of Israel against the Islamic
Republic of Iran, aggravated by the military action of the
United States of America when bombing Iranian territory, threatens to
trigger a crisis with catastrophic consequences, of a nuclear nature, against the region and the world.
“Venezuela urgently calls on organizations in the
global south, including the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries, the League of Arab
States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Gulf
Cooperation Council, the African Union, the BRICS, CELAC and other regional
bodies, to jointly promote an immediate and complete ceasefire in Western Asia,” he concluded.
