The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that her government is holding talks to generate dialogue and mediation that can alleviate tensions between Cuba and the United States (USA).

“There are talks to see if it's feasible, but it depends on the two governments, not only on the will of the government of Mexico, but on the will of the government of Cuba and the will of the government of the United States,” Sputnik quoted from the statements of the head of state.

The president made the statement while Washington is pressuring Havana with threats to impose tariffs on countries that supply oil to the island, in this regard, Mexico is negotiating to prevent such actions from taking place in addition to sending humanitarian aid in food to Cuba.

On the other hand, he assured that mediation also depends on “the conditions that, within the framework of its self-determination, the government of Cuba may be establishing.”

The Mexican Government bases its position on the principles of the Constitution of the Latin American country regarding its foreign policy, which establish promoting the self-determination of peoples, non-intervention and the defense of human rights.

The Mexican president stressed that her government will continue to send humanitarian aid to Cuba, after the first dispatch of two ships with more than 800 tons of food, last week.

“We are going to continue sending aid, supporting not only the government, supporting the people of Cuba, but (that) there are already many citizen initiatives,” he stressed.

The measures adopted by Washington have caused a serious shortage of fuel on the island and the authorities warn of the negative impact it has on people's lives and the functioning of the economy.
